Actions, labour rights, immigration updates & more!

Published on January 17, 2022

We are in another wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, and many of us continue to face the same or worse problems as before! We are once again trapped inside our employers’ homes, in some cases being forced to work if we are sick. Others have lost work and are unable to access federal income support because we do not meet the requirements. We cannot change or find work with new employers because of our closed work permits or implied status.

While some of us have received PR decisions, many of us are still waiting for a response and continue to be separated from our families. This is why a group of self-organized migrant nannies rallied this week in front of MP Sukh Dhaliwal’s office in Surrey, BC to demand faster processing of their permanent residency applications. Their message was clear: it’s time to end the backlog!

H&C Workshop for Migrant Care Workers

Although the HCCP and HSWP are now accepting applications, many of us are still unable to apply because of the unfair language, education and work requirements. If you are in this situation, you may be able to get PR through the Humanitarian and Compassionate (H&C) application stream.

Join our online workshop on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 12PM (ON), 9am (BC), 10am (AB), and 1PM (MB) to learn about the H&C application and how to make your application stronger. Register here.

This workshop is for migrant care workers only!
